Today is World Asthma Day – May 6, 2025

At Bellingham Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, we’re proud to stand with the global community in recognizing World Asthma Day: a day dedicated to raising awareness, improving education, and advocating for better access to care for those living with asthma.

Asthma affects over 260 million people worldwide and can significantly impact daily life, from missed school and workdays to sleep disruptions and limits on physical activity. But with proper diagnosis, treatment, and support, asthma is a manageable condition, and people with asthma can lead full, active lives. Learn more about Asthma from the World Health Organization.

Make Inhaled Treatments Accessible for All

Access to life-saving asthma medications like inhalers and controller therapies should not be a privilege — it’s a right. This year, the focus is on reducing health disparities and making sure all individuals, regardless of location or income, can access the treatments they need.

Asthma is Manageable

Asthma is manageable- and with the right support, you or your loved ones can lead an active, healthy life.

What You Can Do Today:

  • Check in on your asthma action plan. When was the last time it was updated?
  • Know your triggers. Identifying and avoiding common triggers like pollen, dust mites, smoke, or stress can help keep asthma under control.
  • Use your medications as prescribed. Controller medications prevent flare-ups, while rescue inhalers are for immediate symptoms. Both are essential.
  • Schedule an appointment. Whether you need a diagnosis, follow-up, or help adjusting your treatment, we’re here to help.

Note of Encouragement

Living with asthma doesn’t have to mean living in fear of the next attack. With the right support and tools, you can take control of your asthma instead of letting it control you. Whether you’re newly diagnosed or have had asthma for years, our team is here to walk alongside you on your journey to better breathing.
